This footage is important for more to see and really understand what taking killer whales from the wild to stick into a tank means for them... early death, one way or another.

If you haven't read it, this is the background story...

October 6th, 2003 - Russian orca captured!

October 12th, 2003 - Russian orca capture

Film footage of the capture off the southeastern coast of Kamchatka Peninsula in 2003.
(*WARNING: THESE IMAGES ARE VERY DISTURBING!!)

The calf that was captured, which you see at the end of the video, died in less than a month after that was filmed.

October 31st 2003 - Russian orca dies

When you pay the ticket price to see killer whales in captivity, THIS is what you're supporting!!

You know, growing up I always wanted to visit Sea World....I never really thought about how the animals were obtained at that age. Now I have a totally new perspective about any animal being kept in captivity, especially our beloved orcas. I can only imagine with their close family ties, the horror and misunderstanding the orcas must feel when they are subjected to a capture attempt. This story breaks my heart, and I really think people everywhere need to reevaluate their lives and their morals and see the damage we are causing to this earth and its inhabitants.

Do you know of any attempts after 2003 to capture orcas?

Unfortunately, they aren't finished trying to capture them.

The Russian Orcas homepage wrote:
11.01.06 Total allowable cathches of orcas in Russia in 2006 will be 6 animals, two animals per each of Northern Ohkotsk sea sub-zone, Kamchatka-Kuril zone and Eastern Sakhalin sub-zone

This is the Russian Orcas homepage... it loads very slowly sometimes

These are links in this section of RL. There's some additional information that came after the 2003 capture.

I really cannot fathom how people can just drown an orca with no remorse. You would think that after the death of the female orca captured in 2003, that the Russians would cease trying to capture orcas. I really had no idea that it was legal for any country to capture orcas FOR ANY REASON!!!!
